During National Environmental Education Week 2007, our M.A.K.E. (Mothers and Kids Enrichment) Time Homeschool Playgroup met several times to provide our children with resources and background information on preserving our environment. Monday brought us a representative from our local electric company. Our kids soon discovered how much electricity is used just by plugging in Nintendos, charging cell phones, and hanging out in the fridge. There was some good Q&A's from kindergarteners to 8th graders. On Wednesday we met at Montgomery Bell State Park where as a group we discussed ways of protecting our environment and what it would be like if there were not places like state parks to go to. Friday we went to the Nashville Zoo (where most of us are members) and discussed with the children how different animals require different environments in which to live. Our hope is to continue assisting our children in the ways of preservation and conservation and providing the resources to engage them in this lifetime endeavor.
Thank you National Environmental Education Foundation for providing us materials and taking the time to put this together each year. We look forward to working with you next year.
