Connection

All environmental education programs strive to provide engaging, hands-on experience in the natural world. What better way to create Earth stewards then to give young people an up-close and personal experience with live animals. During wildlife week, the P/NW BOCES Center for Environmental Education brought to our environmental center, Talons! A Bird of Prey Experience. As students listened to this engaging presenter, watched the birds fly and in some cases held them, they learned about raptors in a way that they couldn’t learn from books or technology. For the students who participated in this program, it was a “wow” experience that completely captured their attention. But for this young lady, it was a moment that will stay with her for the rest of her life. And through this picture, the impact continues, just seeing it has created a “wow” moment for many viewers. How can an experience like this not create a connection between humans and nature?
