From the Red Cedar River!
Central Elementary School
The Red Cedar Watershed Project focuses on three main topics: Water Quality, Aquatic Wildlife, and Human Impact. The design of this project is to utilize the Red Cedar River, a local natural resource as a living laboratory for the students of Central Elementary. During Central's first "Green" Week in April 2008 students got an opportunity to go near the river with fifth grade teacher Paul Hinze and make a first-hand account of some of the aquatic wildlife that lives in the river. With the assistance of Mark Stephens from Project F.I.S.H, students observed many of the macro-invertebrates that live in that local habitat. Students learned that the diversity found in the river can be an indicator of the quality of the river.
